Our New Playroom

Nate and I have wanted to create a playroom for Gretchen for quite some time, and we were finally able to make our dream a reality for our sweet girl.

We love the concept of being able to separate her toys from our living room area, because we learned, quickly, that the toys would keep coming and our living room would soon be taken over completely!

After lots of hard work, some money, and creativity, here is Gretchen's playroom:

We wanted the playroom to be fun, vibrant and full of life! So, we painted the walls teal, the bookshelves orange and purple, installed rainbow foam flooring and created some colorful art to decorate the with.

This is the view when looking directly in from the hallway. You'll notice a painting that I painted on the left side and a canvas I decorated with scrapbook paper on the right.

Here is a view of  one of sections in her playroom where all of her Fisher Price Little People are. We also hung up a CandyLand rug that we were given to make this part of the room extra fun.

Our house is a split level, so we have a ledge that runs across the lower half portion of the playroom. This ledge works as a great stuffed animal shelf for all of Gretchen's stuffed animals! We scored the valances for $1.50 each at Christmas Tree Shops and the art on the wall was made with crayons and a glue gun. The mirror below is decorated with colorful buttons, and Gretchen loves to stand and look at herself in it.

Here's a view of Gretchen's pretend play area, where her kitchen and doll stroller are.

Here's a front view of the kitchen and pretend play area. We plan to place a small dress up clothes chest in the right corner when she gets a little older.

Gretchen's kitchen area is so fun! We scored the toy kitchen for FREE, because it was left on the curb a few houses up. They were just going to get rid of it, so we snagged it up. She received toy pots, pans, utensils and wooden food for Christmas! There is a built in high chair so that she can feed her dolls, too. Look at the menu to the right. I made that with my Cricut craft machine, and we can pin up different food as we go along (the menu is made on a piece of cork).

Here's a front on of the two bookshelves Nate painted. We had previously used these in our office area (just simple shelves from Walmart). The bins are from Christmas Tree Shops and filled with all of her small toys. It's a great way to easily clean the playroom. When she is older, we will place picture labels on the front of each bin so that she can help us pick up the toys when we are done using them.

A closer look at her Fisher Price Little People town. She has the farmhouse, doll house, zoo, bus, SUV and airplane! Fortunately we only had to buy the zoo and tiny bus. The rest were given to us as hand-me-downs and Christmas gifts!

Here is a close up of our quiet time reading area. We bought a beanbag chair and the fluffy pillow at Walmart, the shelving at Christmas Tree Shops and I made a little inspiring cork board that says "Imagine." Gretchen loves the fluffy purple pillow!

We hope that you enjoyed the tour of our new playroom!
